Minha Yang (b. 1975) is an educator and media artist based in Seoul, KOREA. The foundation of Minha Yang’s work spans from the incorporation of art and science, vitality of machines, coevolution, algorithm, to artificial intelligence. Contradicting to the abstruseness of algorithm and the complexity of the subject he deals with, the artist deliberately flattens the visual expression and attempts to conceal the technology behind it. This attitude comes down to the artist’s stance that the work should be a sentimental piece of art, disguising the AI and algorithm, which allows the audience to completely immerse oneself in the artwork. Starting off with the 2nd Seoul International Media Art Biennale in 2002, Minha Yang has been invited to join numerous exhibitions, including MAAP: Multimedia Art Asia Pacific(2002), Spain ARCO Biennale(2007), The Prague Contemporary Art Festival(2007), Centre Des Arts Enghien-Les-Bains(2010), Incheon International Digital Art Festival(2009, 2010), The Creators’ Project (2011, 2012), the inauguration exhibition of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Seoul(2013), Les Arts Décoratifs (2015), FILE Festival, Brazil(2015), ELEKTRA, Canada (2016), Ars Electronica (2018), and Daejeon Biennale(2020). He has been the recipient of a number of awards such as the Asia Digital Art Award (2001~2004), Canon Award from Canon Digital Creators Contest (2001~2002), and Today’s Young Artist Prize in the art category bestowed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2014. Yang received a BFA and MFA in visual design from Seoul National University. He is currently a professor at University of Seoul Graduate School of Design.
양민하(b. 1975)는 컴퓨테이셔널 미디어를 다루는 작가이며 교육자다. 그는 예술과 과학의 이종교배, 기계의 생명성, 공진화, 알고리즘 그리고 인공지능 등을 주제와 소재로 다룬다. 그는 작품들이 갖는 주제의 복잡성과 알고리즘의 난해함과는 반대로 단순한 시각 표현을 즐기며 사용하는 공학 기술조차 최대한 은닉한다. 이러한 태도는 인공지능과 알고리즘 같은 기술 도구를 드러내지 않는 조형이어야 작품이 독립적으로 작동할 수 있고 관객의 완전한 몰입이 가능하다는 믿음에 기인한다. 양민하는 2002년 서울 국제미디어아트비엔날레를 시작으로 MAAP(2002), 스페인 ARCO비엔날레(2007), 체코 프라하Contemporary아트페스티벌(2007), 프랑스 앵갱레벵 Bains Numerique #5(2010), 인천 국제디지털아트페스티벌(2009, 2010), 크리에이터스 프로젝트 월드투어(2011, 2012), 국립현대미술관 서울관 개관특별전(2013), 프랑스 장식미술관(2015), 브라질 FILE Festival(2015), 캐나다 ELEKTRA(2016), 아르스일렉트로니카(2018), 대전비엔날레(2020)를 포함한 다양한 전시에 초대되었다. 그는 아시아디지털아트어워드(2001-04)와 캐논 디지털크리에이터스컨테스트(2001-02)에서 Canon Award 등을 수상하였고, 2014년에는 문화체육관광부 오늘의 젊은 예술가상 미술 부문 수상자로 선정되었다. 그는 서울대학교에서 산업디자인 학사, 동 대학원에서 시각디자인 석사학위를 취득하였다. 양민하는 현재 서울시립대학교 디자인전문대학원 교수로 재직 중이다.
